Dr. Felipe Cantu grew up in South Texas and earned his medical degree at Tecnologico de Monterrey, which is one of the most prestigious academic institutions in Latin America and concluded an internship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. Dr. Cantu completed his General Surgery residency at Tecnologico de Monterrey where he became an early advocate of Bariatric surgery and Clinical Investigation. He was a candidate for the National Award of Surgery due to numerous research projects on Gastrointestinal Surgery.
Dr. Cantu completed his education on Vascular Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital- University of Miami and gained considerable experience in Advanced Laparoscopic Procedures at the world-renowned Texas Endosurgery Institute.
Founder of the Advanced Bariatric Institute, Dr. Cantu serves as Chief of the Department of Bariatric Surgery at Christus-Muguerza Hospital in Reynosa, Mexico.
A leader in Advanced Laparoscopic Techniques, Dr. Felipe Cantu has been a supporter in transforming many highly invasive surgical procedures into minimally invasive operations.
A full-time Bariatric Surgeon, his leadership is specially pronounced in Minimally Invasive Weight Loss procedures: Laparoscopic Gastric Band, Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy, Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Revisions of failed weight loss surgeries and Endoscopic Intra-gastric Balloon.
Today he stays abreast of developments in technology through memberships in the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Diseases.
Board-Certified by the Mexican Council of General Surgery, Mexican Society for General Surgery, Latin American Association for Endoscopic Surgery and The Mexican College for Surgery of Obesity where he serves on several committees. |
